Chandigarh, july 24: The shiromani Akali Dal reacted strongly to the statement of Capt. amarinder Singh and described it as the distortion of history and a bundle of lies. The party Secretary and spokesman Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema said,"The whole word knew how congress party backtracked from Rajiv-Longowal accord and did not implement a single clause of the accord in favour of Punjab.

The only clause they tried to fulfil was the construction of SYL, which was against the interests of Punjab." Because of this betrayal by the congress high command, Sant Longowal was let down publically and he became the target of militants. "had the congress would have fulfilled even a single  pro- Punjab clause of the accord like transfer of Chandigarh to Punjab, settlement of sikh soldiers, recruitment of sikhs in army on merits etc., the situation would have been entirely different," added Cheema. He urged congress leaders not to mislead the people regarding the historical facts just to cover the misdeeds of congress party.
